Glass Bridges and Skywalks in India: Where They Are and What to Know

Short answer: The best-known glass bridges and skywalks in India are at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu (over the sea), Vagamon in Kerala, Rajgir in Bihar and Kailasagiri in Visakhapatnam. In Rishikesh, Bajrang Setu — a suspension bridge over the Ganga with glass walkways, built to replace the old Lakshman Jhula — was reported complete in July 2026, with ticketed access still being arranged at that time. Opening hours, ticket prices and visitor limits change, so check locally before travelling for any of them.

What walking on one is like

  • You wear cloth shoe covers and walk in a small timed group; staff control the numbers.
  • The glass is laminated in several layers. It can look scratched or cracked on the top layer without being unsafe, but closures for repair are common.
  • Bags, tripods and food are usually not allowed on the glass.
  • Expect queues on weekends and holidays; the walk itself lasts minutes.

Before you go

  • Check that it is open. Bridges close in rain, high wind and for maintenance. At Bajrang Setu, a glass panel was reported damaged in April 2026 before opening.
  • Check the ticket. Prices and time limits change; some sites sell tickets only at the counter.
  • Go early on a clear weekday for shorter queues and better views.
  • Think about who is with you. Anyone with vertigo, or small children who may panic, can use the solid edge or skip it.
  • Do not plan a whole trip around one bridge. Each is a short stop within a larger place worth seeing.

Pair it with

  • Rishikesh: the aarti, rafting in season and the riverside — things to do in Rishikesh.
  • Kanyakumari: sunrise and sunset from the southern tip.
  • Vagamon: meadows and pine forest, with Munnar or Thekkady.
  • Rajgir: Nalanda's ruins and the ropeway to the Peace Pagoda.

Planned in the Himalaya

A glass skywalk has been proposed at Mandi-Bharari in Bilaspur district on the Chandigarh–Manali highway, and ropeway projects have been announced around Tehri and between Dehradun and Mussoorie. These were proposals or under construction in 2026 reports, not attractions you can visit yet.
