Kasol and Parvati Valley 4-Day Itinerary

Short answer: Arrive at Kasol and walk to Chalal on day one; visit Manikaran and move up to Tosh on day two; trek from Barshaini to Kheerganga on day three; and walk down and leave on day four.

The plan at a glance

DayRouteNight at
1Bhuntar – Kasol; Chalal walkKasol
2Manikaran and up to ToshTosh
3Barshaini – Kheerganga trekKheerganga or back to Barshaini
4Down to Barshaini; departOvernight bus from Bhuntar

Who this plan suits

Friends and couples who are comfortable walking 12–14 km. Without the trek, do it in three days.

Day by day

Day 1: Bhuntar – Kasol; Chalal walk

  • Local bus or taxi from Bhuntar.
  • Riverside walk to Chalal village.
  • Withdraw cash here.

Day 2: Manikaran and up to Tosh

  • Gurudwara, hot springs and langar at Manikaran.
  • Bus or taxi to Barshaini, then up to Tosh, about 2,400 m.
  • Evening views over the valley.

Day 3: Barshaini – Kheerganga trek

  • Start by 8 am; 12–14 km, four to six hours up.
  • Hot spring at the top, about 2,950 m.
  • Stay only if overnight camping is currently permitted; otherwise return the same day, which makes a very long day.

Day 4: Down to Barshaini; depart

  • Walk down in the morning.
  • Taxi to Bhuntar for the evening bus.

Best time for this trip

March to June and September to November. Avoid July and August: landslides, flash floods and a dangerous river. Snow can close the trek in winter.

Practical notes

  • Do not enter the Parvati river or sit at its edge.
  • Use a registered guide beyond the main trail and tell your stay where you are going.
  • Narcotics are illegal and police checks are common.
  • Carry rain cover, a torch and enough cash.

What it costs

We do not publish a fixed price: the cost depends on your dates, group size, vehicle and the standard of stays. Tell us those and we will send a written quote that states exactly what is included.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kheerganga possible as a day trek?

Fit walkers do it, but it is 24–28 km in all. An overnight is easier where permitted.

Is Tosh worth a night?

Yes, for the views and to adjust to the height before the trek.

Is the valley safe?

On the main routes, with normal care. Stay away from the river and do not trek alone.

Where do I catch the bus back?

At Bhuntar, on the Manali–Delhi highway.
